I’m A Honda Driving Soccer Dad – For Real
August 27th, 2009Being a single parent to a pair of 7 year old twin boys isn’t exactly a walk in a park. More so as its little league soccer season again. This year yours truly is responsible for getting the team jerseys ready.
Being one of but three men among 13 women in our team’s committee, it was a bit of a struggle to get the majority of the committee to come to an agreement not to change the team’s jersey color from red to pink. But try as we might, we failed in our valiant attempt to change the team name to The Red Dragons from The Red Flamingos.
After searching for uniforms, and believe it or not – sponsors, it came to my attention that our children’s soccer team did not even have its own logo. I spoke of this concern of mine with the other two dads and we agreed that it would certainly be a a superb idea if we had our own soccer team symbol. So we decided to create a logo prototype each and display them to the committee.
All three of us got together the coming weekend with our cutting edge designs and broke out in hysterical laughter, before unanimously deciding not to quite our day jobs to become designers. Evidently my Flamingo gave certain people the impression that it was a Woodpecker on banned anabolic matter. The so called works of pure creative genius from the other two dads weren’t a whole lot better better. One can potentially be mistaken for a work by Picasso and the other seemed like bored doodlings from a hapless victim of a 3 hour long weekly meeting. But we went ahead and gave the designs to the committee anyway.
Though the committee barred the 3 of us from designing anything for the club until such time when certain farm animals sprout wings and fly, they did conclude that our little league team should certainly have its own logo. So I excitedly went home and conducted a search for logo design italy, shortlisted a handful of the more prominent design agencies and gave them to the committee.
Now our soccer team has, after all this time, got its own custom logo. We had logo sewed on badges made for the team jerseys and team stickers made for the fun of it – thanks to a bit of sponsorship we got from the ice cream shop next to the park. The logo itself ended up looking extremely cool with a an unmistakeably red Flamingo standing on one leg and the other casually resting on a soccer ball with its wings crossed.
I heard a little rumor that next year yours truly will be in charge of water based sustenance. I’m considering taking it a step further and am already planning to talk to Powerade about a sponsorship package.
